There is a place in Sardinia where threads intertwine not only plots and designs, but stories, memories, and visions of the future. This place is Samugheo, the Sardinian capital of weaving, which also this year hosts Tessingiu, the historic Sardinian Crafts Exhibition.
Since 1966, Tessingiu has been much more than an exhibition: it is a collective ritual, a moment in which the Island tells its story through the hands of its artisans. Sixty years of tradition, which have never stopped regenerating themselves, transforming themselves into a living laboratory of material culture.
Tradition that speaks the language of the present
The heart of the exhibition is, and remains, the textile: carpets, tapestries, tablecloths, curtains that bear the memory of gestures passed down from generation to generation. But Tessingiu 2025 does not stop at celebrating the past: alongside the more classic artifacts, there is also space new interpretations, contemporary design, contaminations that renew the codes of craftsmanship without betraying its essence.
Ceramics, wood, leather, metals, jewelry, weaving, and natural fibers complete the exhibition, transforming Samugheo into a dynamic and multifaceted showcase.
A meeting of knowledge and visions
What makes Tessingiu unique is its ability to to bring teachers and young people into dialogue, custodians of tradition and creatives of tomorrow. Each stand thus becomes a space for discussion, an open laboratory where craftsmanship, aesthetic research, and sustainability meet.
It's not uncommon to come across a craftsman working at the loom or a designer reinterpreting traditional motifs with new materials. Visitors are never mere spectators, but part of a journey that intertwines knowledge and territory.
Tessingiu as a travel experience
Visiting the exhibition also means discovering Samugheo, a small town in the Mandrolisai area nestled among hills and pristine landscapes. An opportunity for slow tourism, filled with authentic encounters, local flavors, and the warm hospitality so typical of inland towns.
