Casa Amsicora in Samugheo: hospitality and exchanges in Sardinia

A traditional trachyte stone residence, three furnished rooms, and a family history to share. Located in the historic center of Samugheo, Casa Amsicora opens its doors to those who wish to stay in Sardinia, explore the region, and experience a unique hospitality experience.

The house offers three furnished rooms and a variety of accommodation options: a mutual exchange of hospitality or a fair and equitable financial contribution, agreed upon based on the length and type of stay.

You don't need to participate in courses, events, or projects. You can simply choose Casa Amsicora as a place to spend a few days, discover Samugheo, and learn about Sardinian life and traditions.

A traditional house in the heart of Samugheo

Casa Amsicora is located in the historic center of Samugheo, in the province of Oristano, in the Barigadu region, among the historic and cultural areas of Sardinia's hinterland.

It is a family home built of trachytic stone, completed in 1955 and owned by the same family for generations. Its architecture retains the characteristics of traditional homes in the area, with rooms spread across three levels and spaces that reflect a way of life rooted in rural life.

The restoration of the house allowed us to preserve its identity, objects, and testimonies of domestic life, restoring its new function of hospitality and meeting.

The environments and services

The house has three furnished guest rooms, two bathrooms, and common areas spread across the various levels.

Available spaces include:

  • Three furnished rooms, to welcome guests and travellers.
  • Two bathrooms, distributed on different levels.
  • Internal garden, a private space to relax and spend time outdoors.
  • Loggia with oven, linked to the domestic tradition of bread making.
  • Internal parking, for those arriving by car.
  • Two entrances, both accessible from the main road.

The house offers a family atmosphere, far from the standardization of traditional accommodations, where the spaces retain the character and memory of their history.

A house museum: the memory of trades and rural life

Casa Amsicora preserves rooms and tools that testify to the domestic and productive activities of Sardinian families of the past.

It is not a traditional museum, but a house in which objects, equipment, and environments recount gestures and knowledge passed down through the generations.

Among the most significant testimonies:

The weaving

A room dedicated to textile processing preserves an ancient loom and tools linked to the artisanal tradition of Samugheo, a town known for its production of traditional carpets and fabrics.

The bread making

The tools and spaces dedicated to bread making recall the central role of the home oven in family life and community relations.

Peasant life

Other rooms preserve evidence of winemaking, cheesemaking, and product transformation activities, an expression of a domestic economy based on self-production and knowledge of local resources.

These spaces represent an important part of Casa Amsicora's identity: a family heritage that lives on through the opportunity to be known and shared.

Hospitality and exchange: two ways to stay at Casa Amsicora

Hospitality is a key aspect of Abreskia. This is why Casa Amsicora offers stays that prioritize relationships, reciprocity, and shared use of resources.

Mutual exchange of hospitality

Anyone who has a home in another location can propose a hospitality exchange.

It's an opportunity for those who want to explore new places, share their experiences, and temporarily share their home.

The period, duration, and method of the exchange are agreed upon directly, taking into account each other's needs and availability.

Fairly compensated hospitality

For those who don't have a home to exchange or prefer a more traditional formula, it's possible to agree on a fee for staying in the available rooms.

We don't use a standard hotel price list: the fee is set in advance, taking into account the length of stay, the number of guests, and how the spaces are used.

The economic conditions, any additional services and accommodation arrangements are communicated and agreed upon before arrival.

The two formulas are independent of participation in projects or activities. You can come to Casa Amsicora simply to spend a few days in Samugheo.

Samugheo, the town of weaving

Staying at Casa Amsicora also means getting to know a town that has retained a strong cultural and artisanal identity.

Samugheo is known in Sardinia and beyond for its weaving tradition, particularly for its carpets and fabrics, crafted using techniques handed down over time.

Artisan workshops, the skills of the weavers, and cultural initiatives dedicated to the textile heritage represent an important part of the town's life.

The MURATS, the Regional Museum of Sardinian Textile Art

A visit to MURATS allows you to delve deeper into the history and evolution of the island's traditional weaving.

The museum houses artifacts from various areas of Sardinia, including carpets, blankets, tablecloths, costumes, saddlebags, and textiles related to everyday life.

Alongside the preservation of tradition, the museum offers opportunities to learn about and engage with contemporary interpretations of textile art.

Bread, cooking and home traditions

Alongside weaving, food culture also tells the story of Samugheo and the rural communities in the area.

The preparation of bread, handmade pasta, and traditional products represents a heritage of knowledge that still lives on today in families and local artisan businesses.

At Casa Amsicora this knowledge is documented in the rooms dedicated to bread making and domestic life.

For those who wish to deepen their knowledge through hands-on experiences, artisans and people with specific skills can be contacted for weaving and bread-making workshops. These activities are optional, organized separately from the stay and subject to availability and specific arrangements.

Discover the area: history, archaeology and landscape

Samugheo is located in a part of inland Sardinia characterized by landscapes, historical evidence, traditional architecture and nature trails.

The area offers various opportunities for those who wish to alternate their stay with moments of discovery.

Places of interest include:

  • Medusa Castle: evocative historical testimony inserted in a landscape context of particular interest.
  • Church of San Sebastiano: religious building that preserves architectural elements of historical and artistic interest.
  • Church of St. Basil: testimony of local religious architecture.
  • Paule Luturru archaeological area: one of the references for learning about the archaeological heritage of the area.

The surrounding landscape, with its hills, gorges, and the Araxisi River, offers further opportunities for excursions and outdoor activities.

Festivals and popular traditions

Throughout the year, Samugheo hosts events that allow visitors to learn about the community's culture and social life.

Carnival, with its masks and traditional events, and Mojos e Marigas, a festival dedicated to gastronomy and local produce, are opportunities to discover the flavors, traditions, and relationships that characterize the country.

These are moments in which culture is not just something to be observed, but a living reality, made up of people, gestures, knowledge, and participation.

Casa Amsicora: A space for ideas and projects.

In addition to hospitality, Casa Amsicora can be used for cultural, educational, creative, and local learning activities.

Abreskia welcomes proposals from individuals, associations, professionals, and groups interested in using the spaces for their own initiatives.

Workshops, meetings, small events, creative residencies, research activities, and audiovisual productions are some of the possibilities.

Initiatives are conceived and organized by those who propose them. Abreskia provides spaces and, where possible, can foster connections with people, expertise, and organizations in Samugheo and the surrounding areas.

The terms of use, periods, any services, and compensation are agreed upon in advance through specific agreements.

A family home open to others

Casa Amsicora was born from a family history and the desire to preserve its memory, without giving up imagining new possibilities for the future.

Opening your home to hospitality means sharing not only the rooms, but also a part of Samugheo's history, its traditions, and its cultural heritage.

You can choose to stay for a few days, propose a hospitality exchange, or imagine an activity to carry out in the home's spaces.

You don't need a specific itinerary: sometimes all you need is the desire to explore a place, meet people, and discover a Sardinia off the beaten track.

Casa Amsicora is a home to temporarily inhabit, a history to be discovered, and a space to be shared.
