Samugheo is a splendid village located in the center of Sardinia, known as the "capital" oftextile craftsmanship. And that's where the FRIENDLY HOUSE where the activities of the ABRESKIA PROJECT.
The historic center of Samugheo, divided into four districts, is characterized by two-storey houses with balconies, portals and frames in red trachyte. The homes are adorned with beautiful murals representing the emblem of the country: carpets. On the outskirts of the town there is the Regional Museum of Textile Art (Murats), where it is possible to admire splendid artefacts from all over Sardinia, including wooden looms and other weaving equipment.
Unique pieces such as the “affaciadas“, small tapestries exhibited during the Corpus Christi, hey eighteenth-century “tapinus de mortus”., of which eight came from all over the island.
But Samugheo is not just the center of textile craftsmanship. The territory has been populated since the Neolithic and there are numerous testimonies from the Bronze Age, such as the tomb of Giants Paule Luturu and the nuraghe Lose Orrubia. Every October the Bread Festival, where you can taste the local bread and visit the various bakeries in the town located in the old historic houses including FRIENDLY HOUSE which was the protagonist for many editions.
“To Maimone” is the Samugheo carnival, a unique experience that takes place every year and attracts visitors from all over Sardinia and beyond. During the event, the town is invaded by traditional masks from different areas of Sardinia and also from the rest of the world, who perform in shows and group dances in the streets of the historic center.
“Is Mamutzones” is a cultural association from Samugheo. The association is responsible for preserving and promoting the culture and traditions of the country, in particular those linked to the figure of Mamutzone And "S'Urtzu“, the most famous mask of the Samugheo carnival.
“Is Mamutzones” are made up of a group of people who dedicate themselves to the construction and care of the masks and traditional costumes of this mask. Their activity is not limited to the carnival period, but takes place all year round, through participation in cultural events and the promotion of local traditions.
